The latest version of the Estimator is 12 February, 2020 and can be downloaded from within Hive.
Probax’s direct channel sales model gives MSPs a platform as a service to create an industry-leading backup & DR offering. Our pricing model gives MSPs a flexible data quota to be pooled across customers who have engaged the MSP to provide offsite backup and DR services.
To assist MSPs with generating wholesale and RRP pricing across our solution, we’ve created the Estimator spreadsheet.
Always ensure you are working from the latest version of the spreadsheet. To check, click on the ‘Check for Update’ button, and if your version is older than the version in this article, click ‘Download New Estimator’.
To generate a quote using the Estimator, first open the spreadsheet and select your current or intended partner tier. You’ll see the monthly minimum spend and discount tier appear. Apart from Flex which is month-by-month, other partner tiers all entail a 12-month contract.
Next, select the applicable region.
Probax offers Veeam licences at very low wholesale rates. These licences are all on a monthly subscription basis and are licenced per VM (or physical workstation/server). Licences you provision with Probax do not require monthly reporting.
MSPs have the ability to provision Veeam licences for clients that are not backing up offsite to Probax.
If you are backing up or replicating data to the Probax Cloud, you’ll need a Cloud Connect Backup or DR licence. These will be provisioned automatically when the Backup Copy job to Probax is created.
Backup as a Service
When creating an estimate for BaaS, you’ll need to factor in existing storage, as well as storage for the opportunity at hand to calculate your rate based on your total pooled data. Probax BaaS uses Hyperformance storage for ongoing monitoring and verification of data.
Honeycomb VTL & Dropbox
Honeycomb VTL quotes need to be completed on the 2nd sheet of the Estimator. With Honeycomb you have the option to input multiple retention policies or simply one general policy that covers all the customer infrastructure.
You’ll need to select a range for which costs will be displayed. More information is available on the charts below.
Office 365 Backup & Archive / Dropbox Backup & Archive
The rates are calculated here per user / mailbox.
DR as a Service
DRaaS quotes are priced per VM, with Veeam Cloud Connect DR, RAM, CPU & HDD all included in the single fee cost.
When failed over, active resource use is charged by the day.
Public IPs are also necessary in the case of full failover and will be set up as part of the failover plan.
Select data centre cross-connect if your client requires a private link to Probax’s rack. You’ll need to arrange the cross-connect through their ISP. Probax port fees apply.
Professional Services and Training
Probax’s engineers are available for professional services engagements to help with larger scale deployments or technical team training.
After entering all required item types and quantities, scroll down to the monthly price breakdown and total monthly spend. All prices are monthly and exclude GST unless specified otherwise.
Keep in mind, the estimator fees provided by Probax are for discussion purposes only and are not binding on either you or Probax. Your actual fees may be lower or higher than the estimate due to factors like data growth or deduplication rates. We can provide you with a more specific breakdown of fees upon signup and after a proof of concept has been conducted.
How is storage calculated for BaaS and DRaaS?
BaaS storage will reflect the size of your customers backups + incrementals in their chain. The amount will reflect data deduplication, the type of data and the rate of change reflected in incremental backups. DRaaS on the other hand replicates local VMs, so storage provisioned needs to be 1:1 with the local production environment.
How do you quote for individual customers if my storage is pooled?
We calculate storage rates for individual customers as a percentage of your overall storage quota. As your storage quota grows, the wholesale price per GB will come down for all existing customers.
How do I calculate the amount of resources to provision for DRaaS?
DRaaS requires 4 components, Veeam Cloud Connect DR licences (1 per VM), storage (1:1 with local production environment), total CPU needed in GHz (total cores * clock speed), and total RAM needed in GB (this should reflect what is currently utilized in the customer’s local environment).
How do I quote for Honeycomb/Dropbox?
We suggest providing the customer with a quote for archival which reflects the average monthly price over 12 months. As restore points are added according to the set schedule, the amount of data will grow, so the rate will gradually increase month by month. Honeycomb and Dropbox also require Hyperformance staging storage in order to create restore points.
There’s an issue with the Estimator, these numbers don’t look right!
Please contact email@example.com to report any errors or bugs in the Estimator.
I’d like to see feature ‘x’ incorporated into the Estimator.
Sure, let us know! The Estimator has been developed and improved thanks to the feedback of our partner MSPs. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any suggestions.
Should I purchase licences through Probax or my existing distributor?
Probax offer licences at low wholesale rates that are reported on your behalf. Feel free to compare our pricing against your existing rates. Transitioning is straightforward and requires generating a new licence file from within Control.
What are the differences between the various licensing types?
For differences between the Veeam Backup & Replication Standard, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus editions, see their handy comparison guide. Probax Backup as a Service using Veeam requires a Cloud Connect Backup licence per VM and DR as a Service using Veeam requires a Cloud Connect DR licence per VM. ShadowProtect backups no longer require replication licences to backup offsite
I need a licence that is not specified in the dropdown
